After Snow Leopard

With Microsoft working as hard as they can on Windows 7 for 2010 release, I can't help but think how would apple compete with it. Windows 7 looks like it will set a benchmark on future operating systems.

I'm pretty sure Apple would not allow to be left behind on this one (multi-touch screen and everything) and being the makers of the world's most advance operating system tells me that there will be massive upgrade on their line of products both hardware and software. As Snow Leopard will be available a year after since it was announced during the WWDC 2008, Apple would probably make the next generation of their Mac OS after 2 years. I'm sure they are already preparing for it. We just don't know since Apple is very secretive at their activities and there hasn't been any news regarding the next OS except for the funny naming scheme. How about you? What would you like to see?

5-year career plan

We had a nice department activity early last week and it was about Mind Mapping. It was about how to maximize brain usage. We created our personal diagram towards the end of the session and after that, we presented it to everyone. It was very interesting to note that most of us, in our 5-year plan, are gonna shift from our beloved IT career and move on to something else. Well it's not impossible, but why?

Being in IT, you invest a lot on technologies and research mostly on your own to keep up with the demands. You always make sure you are technically competent to earn more. This is the problem. Because of constantly catching up with recent technologies, along the years, it will tear you out. As a web developer this is always the case because internet technologies evolve very fast that a few months off from research and you're off the pace. And if you're a full web developer, you work twice as hard because you are skilled in both design and programming. It is also the very reason you could hardly find a good developer because it requires design and programming. Though many companies now separate design from code, getting both from one person works wonders.

So looking forward, I've been always thinking if I can handle at catching the waves of internet technologies. We don't live any younger each year and every day is about tomorrow. What would happen to me 5 years from now? Will it still support me 10, 20 years or so? I'm blessed to be a full web developer because what would be a smart move for me is to heavily invest my time on getting projects, earn loyal clients, and build a portfolio of great websites. This is why Klik Solutions was founded. It's about my future. And 5 years from now, I won't be doing much about development but on managing and directing my projects with my staffs. That's my 5-year plan. Of course, there is still some catching with the waves, you know, to keep the edge.

Globe to bring iPhone to the Philippines

It just came across my mind on what if I will buy an iPhone to replace my old Sony Ericsson W800, i thought it would be cool. I Google-ed and found a news on Globe's website posted May 12, 2008 that Globe and other telecom providers in Singapore and India will bring iPhone to their region.

It's nice to know that Globe, which is our sister company, won the bid and it's pretty obvious since Globe is a subsidiary Singapore Telecommunications, which is the major iPhone carrier across SouthEast Asia. iPhone with 3G support will be coming out soon and will be announced during the Apple's WDD on June 9-13. So we can expect a 3G-flavored iPhone by then.

It's exciting to see how Globe will handle this. Well I just hope the price won't go over Php 30k+ like those prices when the illegal iPhone first went out of the market. If Globe offers it well, I'm really gonna grab one.
